Description

Vetiver

Origin and background

Vetiver has long been known as an oil of peace and quiet. It is obtained from the roots of a tropical herbaceous plant native to India and Sri Lanka. Today, the plant is also widespread in many other tropical countries, where the plant's roots are used in the household and grown, as the roots of this plant help prevent soil erosion. From ancient times, one of the oldest uses of vetiver roots has been to weave them into mats that, when moistened with water and hung as curtains in front of windows, cool tropical air and at the same time fill the air with its crisp pleasant aroma.

Vetiver oil has a strong, characteristic pungent and earthy scent, which is used in many different men's perfumes and eau de toilettes.

Properties

Aromatic properties

The aroma of vetiver essential oil is very intense when used alone, so it is perfect for balancing other scents. I have noticed that it blends especially well with floral scents, balancing their sweet aroma with a little crispness.

This oil is emotionally very calming and balancing. Especially suitable if you need to relax or relieve stress. It is useful for anxiety, resolving anger, fighting burnouts and exhaustion, and coping with fear or insecurity.

Spiritually, vetiver oil is a great reliever. Because it has always been known as a soothing oil, it is a perfect choice for meditation and prayer. Suitable for balancing the root chakra.

Healing properties

The cooling effect of vetiver essential oil soothes all kinds of inflammation. It is good for relieving inflammation in the circulatory and nervous systems. Relieves muscle spasms and pain, PMS, arthritis and rheumatic pains.

Vetiver essential oil is a known sedative. It soothes irritations, various ailments, seizures, and also emotional outbursts such as anger, anxiety, restlessness, and nervousness. It benefits even people suffering from insomnia.

Suitable for treating acne and caring for oily skin. Heals wounds, helping to grow new tissue faster while keeping wounds free of germs.

Recommended uses

Topical

  • It is recommended to use essential oils and their blend in a diluted form. Especially for sensitive and gentle skin. This means adding a small amount of water or carrier oil before applying it to the skin. The blend can be placed, for example, in a roll-on bottle that is convenient to carry along and can be used at any convenient time.
  • Can also be added to a neutral unscented cream, lotion, or liquid soap to achieve radiant and healthy skin.
Aromatic
  • Can be used in an aroma diffuser both at home or in the office to create a pleasant and cozy atmosphere that relaxes the senses and creates a pleasant aroma around you.
  • It can also be added to an oil burner. Don't forget to add water to the oil burner and then drip in the essential oil! Pure essential oil is too strong and has a faint odor.
  • Can be added to hot bath water and enjoy an aromatic mini-vacation in the middle of everyday life or at the end of a busy week.
  • Combine it with other compatible oils (see recommendations below) in a diffuser or bath water.
  • Can be diluted in the spray bottle with water and spray it at home, in the office, or just to refresh your bed linen.

Compatibility with other essential oils

Sweet orange, mandarin, bergamot, lemon, grapefruit, frankincense, clary sage, ginger, clove, cardamom, black pepper, coriander, lemongrass, may chang, jasmine, rose, petitgrain, lavender, cedarwood, sandalwood, amyris, ylang ylang.
